A tradition is the bonfire night, taking place on the weekend after carnival, where a large cross is burned marking the end of the winter season.

At around 6.30pm, the cortege starts near the city hall towards rue Enz, rue Hierzigsberg, rue des Prés right up to the entrance to the forest at Gewännchen.

Refreshments will be provided as of 6.30 p.m, the burning of the cross starts at 7.00 p.m.

The burning of the ‘Stréimännchen’

The people of Remich have their very own traditions even on Ash Wednesday. On this day, the end of the carnival season is celebrated through the burning of the Stréihmännchen’.
The tradition requires that the ‘Stréimännchen’, a figure made of straw, is carried through the streets of Remich during a dancing procession. Upon arriving on the Moselle bridge, fire is set to the figure and thrown into the water. Traditional culinary delights such ass hot wine punch, fried fish and fried potato pancakes will be provided.

The projection of the film will be followed by a discussion round with director Eric Lamhène, an actress, and experts.

Breathing under water is an emotional drama that tells the story of Emma, who arrives in the middle of the night at a shelter for women in distress. In this new environment, Emma rediscovers facets of herself that she had buried thanks to the bonds and unlikely friendship she forms with a group of women and children. Their traumas intertwine and, despite their differences, a delicate sisterhood emerges, pushing them all to fight to regain their dignity and independence.
