The burning of the ‘Stréimännchen’

The people of Remich have their very own traditions even on Ash Wednesday. On this day, the end of the carnival season is celebrated through the burning of the Stréihmännchen’.
The tradition requires that the ‘Stréimännchen’, a figure made of straw, is carried through the streets of Remich during a dancing procession. Upon arriving on the Moselle bridge, fire is set to the figure and thrown into the water. Traditional culinary delights such ass hot wine punch, fried fish and fried potato pancakes will be provided.
